Nineteen thousand people attended the largest Roman festival in Switzerland on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 August in Augusta Raurica. The Augusta Raurica team is delighted. The festival was a huge success. The major goals of visitor satisfaction and delivering a high-quality programme were met.

As expected, the gladiator school for youngsters, which was new this year, proved to be a big draw. The legionnaires, who set up camp on the festival grounds and allowed children to attend their legionnaires' school, also enjoyed special attention. Spectators flocked to the theatre to take in the main spectacle: the Great Games. The "Paint shields and swords" stand was also constantly busy. The "Archaeology live" activities proved popular too. Those interested could learn more about the archaeologists’ research and work.

To celebrate the 25th Roman Festival, visitors had the opportunity to take home a self-struck commemorative coin and some anniversary bread. Emperor Hadrian's court, which visited the Roman Festival with a 70-strong entourage to mark the anniversary, was larger than ever.

Feedback and memories from the two festival days can be seen on our social media accounts.

The next Roman Festival will take place on 26/27 August 2023, which is the last weekend of August again.

The Augusta Raurica team would like to thank its long-standing sponsor UBS, all the volunteers, the Verkehrskadetten Nordwestschweiz (parking attendants), the Raurica Fire Brigade, the Basel-Landschaft Police, the Kaiseraugst Samaritans' Association, the SV Augst Football Club, the Augst Runners' Club and the Lower Fricktal Civil Defence Service. The organiser would also like to express their gratitude to Thommen Ltd., DSM, Ernst Frey AG and especially Roche for the new parking facilities.
