Development of an augmented reality audio drama

The ‘Augusta Raurica AR Experience’ project is one of the first projects to use digital technologies to realise a new form of storytelling for an ancient monument. The commercial buildings in Schmidmatt are brought to life in a new way using augmented reality (AR): the area excavated in the 1980s in the municipality of Kaiseraugst is considered one of the main attractions of the Roman town.

The concept is based on the latest research findings and was realised digitally in collaboration with Tamschick Media+Space and with financial support from the Federal Office of Culture (FOC). The interplay of architectural enhancement, scenographic installations and state-of-the-art AR technology results in a new kind of overall experience for visitors.

You will need your smartphone or tablet and suitable headphones.
You can download the app for free:

You will need a free ticket to access the commercial buildings.
